Choose a varity of stones. Wash them throughly. Keep in mind that smooth stones are easier to paint. You can use inexpensive, craft arylic paints.
Paint a thin coat of scrylic paint onto stone. Allow to dry and repeat 2-3 more times until you reach your desired opacity.
You may want to paint freehand, or do a light pencil sketch.
In addition to acrylic paint, you can use Sharpies, acrylic paint pens, and gemstones.
After your stones have dried at least twenty four hours, you can either spray or paint a layer of polyurethane to prolong the and give a glossy sheen to your finished product.
